Dragons take Super Cup 6th...

The Dragons were on tour last weekend at the Guildford LadyBoys Festival. A good showing from the team saw them qualify for the Super Cup from Saturday's pool games.

Pool matches

  • vs. Cave Man Golf L0-1

  • vs. GI Janes W1-0 (Lou)

  • vs. The LadyBoys W1-0 (Lou)

  • vs. Club Tropicana D0-0

  • vs. Surrey Uni W2-0 (Lou, Alex)

  • vs. Jacko's Bitches L0-1

Unfortunately, the results on Sunday didn't quite stack up so well and the Dragons finished bottom in the Super Cup and without a win all day.

Super Cup Matches

  • vs. Hornets D0-0

  • vs. Cave Man Golf D0-0

  • vs. Team Liability L0-1

  • vs. Santa's S**t List L0-1

  • vs. Oggy Oggy Oggy L0-1

  • vs. Alcoholics Unanimous L1-3 (MJ)

That aside, tour is very rarely about the results and more about the fun aspects of hockey. On that front the tour was a complete success. However, there was good news elsewhere as club members Mark Jones, Simon Riley & Aidan Brock won the Super Cup as part of the touring team Anglia Hornets HC.

There are still some tours left over the summer. Next on the list is the Riverside 7s Festival at Purley Walcountians on 11/12-Aug-07. The Dragons are always on the lookout for more people to take part. To find out more please go to the tours page.

Summer news round up...

The fixtures for the new season have been released and there are just a few final checks being done before they are published to the club. They will be published on fixturesLive first - the reason for this is that potentially this year they can be integrated into the website rather than replicated - more news on this as it becomes available.

Ever thought about being more involved in the club and how it is run. The AGM is fast approaching and some of the existing officers will be standing down to offer others a chance to take over. One of the higher profile jobs on offer will be Treasurer - anyone insterested in that should speak to EJ.

Finally, the tour season is still in full swing with three more tours before the end of the summer. Next on the list is the Guildford Mixed Festival 20/22-Jul-07. The Dragons are always on the lookout for more people to take part. To find out more please go to the tours page.

Tomahawks sneak 5th in Battersea...

Tomahawks sneak 5th in Battersea...

The touring season kicked off on Saturday with the Tomahawks (THD's invitational mens side) travelling all the way to Battersea Park to compete in the Battersea International Festival.

Tulse Hill & Duwich HC takes part in this festival every year and normally enters both a mens and a womens side. Although the fortunes of the two sides are vastly different - the Women have been reigning champions for the last two years and the Men have rarely qualified past the group stages! Sadly, this year the Women struggled to raise a team and had to pull out. However, this spurred on the Tomahawks - with all of THD's hopes on their shoulders - to scrape a spawny 5th place.

Despite the weather the men managed to secure wins in nearly 50% of their games. Not saying that alcohol was a factor but the earlier the game the better the result! Taking advantage of the new HA rules - by fielding no goalkeeper and 11 outfield players - in the 5th/6th place play-off match the Tomahawks managed to scrape a win against a very drunk team dressed as monks!

So with the passing of the last Bank Holiday in May, begins the summer touring season. There's still many mixed tours to come with Guildford, Riverside 7s & East Grinstead still open for places. To find out more please go to the tours page.

Centenary Weekend...

Centenary Weekend...

The biggest celebratory weekend ever at Tulse Hill & Dulwich HC was held on 27-29 April 2007. The events were a celebration of 100yrs of Dulwich HC and the first five years of the newly merged Tulse Hill & Dulwich HC. The club was fortunate to be able to host a dinner for over 300 at Beauberry House in Dulwich followed by a weekend of matches and partying, so there was something for every generation within the club.

Friday 27th April

Golf Tournament

The event started with a Golf Day at a local course. 15 participants, great weather, winners Mark Pulford and Nick Harris with 77 stableford points (Nick taking the sombrero of the day award for biggest bandit by scoring 45 of them). Highlights included Axel F failing to get past the ladies tee on the first and Nick H's attempt to decapitate Bino whilst playing through on the 7th.

Dinner

The dinner itself was held in a marquee in the grounds of the stunning Beauberry House, with bar and music provided in the house itself. It was a lavish affair that began at 7pm with a champagne reception and continued early into the following morning with dancing and more drinking. Speeches were given by Gordon Nurse, Joanna Reynolds & Keith Howick. For pictures from the night please click here.

Mens 1s secure safety...

Mens 1s Play-off Team

While most of the club were enjoying the Centenary Weekend the Mens 1s were away fighting for survival in the South Div 2 relegation play-offs. Thankfully with a win on both days they ensured that their league status remains intact.

The playoffs were held down at Haslemere HC and THD had to beat Sonning on Saturday and then prevail against the winners between London Wayfarers and Ashford on the Sunday to avoid relegation.

Both games ended with very close scorelines but with THD victorious. A 3-2 win on the Saturday put Sonning out of contention and then a 4-3 thriller on Sunday thwarted London Wayfarers ambitions.

The 1s now have the summer to rebuild in the hope that next season there will be no need for the team to curtail their end-of-season social plans to be involved in a relegation battle.

HA Trophy Final Winners...

Sunday 22-Apr-07

Womens 1s win HA Trophy Final...

Saturday saw the Finals of the HA Trophy at Chelmsford HC, where the Tulse Hill & Dulwich HC Womens 1s won the HA Trophy by beating Watton HC 3-1 in normal time.

After losing out to the eventual winners in both 2005 & 2006, the Womens 1s finally made the trophy theirs at the third time of asking. However, they certainly made hard work of it, with less than three minutes to go the match was still all square at 1-1. As the clock ticked down, THD finally remembered how to score and got two goals in the final minutes.

The first half saw THD take the lead early on through Lisa Cox's strike from the top of the area. However, Watton equalised shortly afterwards with a mazey run along the back line that allowed an easy tap in to be scored behind the keeper. As the match progressed Tulse Hill began to take control and did everything but score. Then with two minutes remaining Lou Morgan scored and as the Watton heads went down Martha Harvey-Jones made it three.

Congtratulations to the Womens 1s, the captain - Gemma Baker, and their Coach, Will Nurse.
