Two in the bag...
The Men's 2s and Tornados have brought back the first two pieces of silverware with fine wins in their respective London Hockey League Division Cup finals. In both games, the THD teams had finished second in their respective divisions, and were playing against their league champions. The scoreline was 2-0 for both games. Men's 2s beat St Alban's 2s and the Tornados beat London Wayfarers Vikings to avenge earlier defeats in the regular season.
Any photos of the day for our website will be much appreciated. Please get in touch with webmaster Felix Nurse, web@thehockeyclub.co.uk.
The Men's and Women's 1s are in action the coming weekend in their respective EH Trophy Finals. Good luck to them; let's have all four trophies!

Half-term report.
While most of the Women's section were enjoying a weekend off, the Men's sides were battling it out for the last few points available as their leagues draw to a close. The Men's 2s and 3s were back among the points with a 3-1 and 1-1 result respectively against Surbiton opposition. The Tornados mathematically may win their league despite their 1-1 draw at Old Loughts. The Diamonds beat their league's cellar dwellers Blackheath.
In other news, the Women's 1s drew 2-2 with Teddington 1s. The Men's 1s lost 3-6 to Wycombe, the Indian Gymkhana beat our Saracens 2-9 in Osterley and the Royals lost to rivals Richmond.

The numbers tell the story.
The good results of the past weekends were not maintained, as this week saw THD in action in 16 games but only winning 6 of them. With a total of 23 goals scored in 1,120 minutes of hockey, it was an average of less than one goal per half of hockey. That's no way to win a league!
It was a good thing then, that the goals came in the right games and at the right amount. The Men's 1s beat Henley in the league to get back to winning ways. They then despatched Norwich City in the EH Men's Trophy to book a date with Streetly 1s on the 6th of March. In other good news, the Women's 6s were back to their best with a 2-1 win over Epsom 5s. The Men's 2s also broke their losing streak with a 2-1 win over St Alban's 2s.

Back on track.
This weekend produced some encouraging results, starting with the Men's 3s who beat Reading Refills 3-1 at home. The 3s have now won two on the bounce and are playing great hockey, to what looks like a turnaround in the season. The Women's 6s also broke a five-game losing streak with a 3-0 win over Thames Valley 2s. In other happy results, the Women's 4s beat South London rivals Richmond 4s by three goals to one.
It was also the EH Knockout competition weekend on Sunday. Our Dragons faced Horsham Mixed and the Women's 1s were home to East Grinstead. Excellent results, boys and girls!

Home and Away.
There were good results all round this weekend as many teams registered wins, both at home and away. The Saracens notched their first win of the last 13 months with a 2-0 win away at Southgate. The Women's 1s beat Wycombe 1s 5-2 at Fortress DC and the Men's 1s got back to winning ways with a 5-3 win at Ashford (Middlesex). There were fantastic results for the Men's 3s and Tornados. The Men's 3s beat local rivals BromBeck by 5 goals to one, to secure their first win of the season. Judging by the way the team has been playing recently, it was only a matter of time till the team played their way back into form. The Tornados beat Southgate 2-0 to maintain their position at the top of their league.
Another win and a few draws elsewhere made it a good week for Tulse Hill & Dulwich Hockey Club.

The Empresses strike back!.
The Women's 1s, 2s and 3s won their games 6-3, 2-1 and 2-1 respectively. The 1s and 3s rebounded from defeats last week. The Women's 2s drew last week, and now maintain their unbeaten run to 6 games! The Men's 2s drew their game with Wayfarers to make it three games unbeaten. In other successes, the Saracens drew with West-London rivals Richmond at Honor Oak Park. This is way it should be! Well done to all the teams!
The Men's 1s lost away to Lewes, in a round where three other games were postponed due to weather. The Tornados unfortunately lost their unbeaten streak too.

Home strength.
Home ground advantage they say. Indeed. The sides playing at home had good results, most of them winning. All the teams playing at Fortress Dulwich College this weekend recorded wins, and the Women's 2s beat Wanderers 4-1 at Crystal Palace.
Unfortunately, the Women's 5s lost at JAGS. However that has always been an unpredictable pitch to play on, no matter how many times you train on it. Well done to the Women's 2s, 3s and Tornados for keeping up their good form!
7-Nov-10
Wins all round....
It was a very good weekend for the THD sides with 10 out of the 13 sides getting wins. One was from the intra-club derby between the Royals and the Saracens, with the Royals winning that one.
The Women's sides had great results, all the teams won except the Women's 5s. There were close wins like the Women's 1s 5-4 win over the Wimbledon 1s and clean sheets like the Women's 6s 2-0 win over Cheam 4s. Well done everyone!
31-Oct-10
Winter blues...
This weekend brought the cold and rain of winter and the results for Tulse Hill & Dulwich were similarly frosty. The bright sparks came from the Women's 1s and 2s. The 1s did not have a league game and breezed past Eastcote 1s by four goals to nil in their EH Trophy fixture. The 2s beat London rivals Spencer away by 3-1 to have scored 7 goals in their last two games. Well done girls!
The Men's 2s continue winning with a 3-2 win over Reading 2As. The Women's 6s also put 4 goals past Epsom to secure much-needed 3 points at an early fixture.
The Men's 1s winning streak came to an end as they drew 1-1 with Henley 1s, who look to be one of the teams vying for the league title with them. The Tornados also dropped two points against Reading. The Women's 3s scored 4 goals past Wayfarers but that was only enough to come away with a draw.

The balanced scorecard...
Most of the teams were on a rest week, but that didn't stop THD chalking up a decent scorecard. The weekend started off well with two wins at Fortress DC for the Tornados and the Men's 2s. The Tornados stay top of their league too.
The Women's 1s had a draw against Trojans, and the Men's 3s had the exact same result against Brombeck 4s. Unfortunately for the Royals and the Diamonds, they both suffered heavy losses to Reading and Southgate sides respectively.
The Men's 1s had a extraordinary weekend. They started Saturday with an away win against Ashford (Kent), followed by another win in the England Hockey Men's Trophy... away to Guernsey!!! More detail to follow in our match reports coming soon...

Meaningful wins and draws for THD this weekend...
The Women's 2s broke a two game losing streak by beating Croydon 1s 4-0, a particularly impressive result given that Croydon have scored 3 or more goals in each of their last two games. The Women's 4s improved as promised by winning 1-0 their encounter with Richmond 4s.
The Men's 1s thumped Ashford (Middlesex) 7-0 at Fortress DC to maintain their unbeaten start to the season. Good to see James Huntley getting amongst the goals as usual with contributions from 4 other team mates, old and new. The Tornados are also unbeaten after their 2-2 draw away to Richmond 4s. The Royals drew 3-3 with Richmond Redoubtables, a good scoring run for them too with at least 3 goals in each of their games. The other teams lost, with the Women's 1s, 3s and Diamonds only losing by a goal.
10-Oct-10
The season is just warming up...
The weather forecast predicted a sunny Saturday, but it was not to be. Similarly, the hard work in training during the week did not translate into victories for the teams in action. Only two teams recorded wins this weekend.
The winning run continues as the newly-demoted Men's 1s beat newly-promoted Epsom by four goals to two at Epsom. The only other team to win was the Tornados, a close 1-0 win over Blackheath Heathens, which sends them to the top of their league.
The Women's 4s drew against Cranleigh 1s and the Men's 2s had the same results against Wimbledon 3s, both games ending 1-1. The Women's 4s bounced back from their defeat last week against one of the strongest teams of their league. (The Diamonds and Royals hadn't reported results yet at time of print.) The remaining teams in action lost their games unfortunately.
27-September-10
Early birds catch worms...
The league hasn't started for many teams, but the THD teams in action were doing their best to hit the ground running. The Ladies 1s got their season off to a fine start, scoring 6 goals away to Wycombe's 3 goals. The Tornados and Diamonds also won 2-1 at home and 3-1 away respectively. Indian Gymkhana beat the Royals 6-3 in the second game of the day at JAGS. The Saracens were eager to continue their winning ways from last week's friendly match, but they had to save it for another week. They were given a walkover and 5 goals due to a Southgate no-show, in Southgate no less!
We wait for next week, when all the teams (except the Royals, slip weekend) are in action.
