THD Phoenix: Celebrating our First Cohort!

  • Hockey program aims to tackle the diversity problem in field hockey
  • Free program introduces sport to under-served children from local inner city state primary schools
  • Prorgam run in partnership with Dulwich College

This month, the first cohort of primary-aged children have graduated from THD Phoenix, a free hockey program run by Rémy Oliver in partnership with Dulwich College. Over 55 children from seven local state primary schools have been taking part in the player pathway over the past two years.

The project is fortunate to be supported by Dulwich College, who have provided facilities, equipment, coaching staff and full administrative support. The College also fund-raised £2,000 to cover additional coaching costs and to purchase new protective equipment for every pupil.

Phoenix aims to tackle the diversity and inclusivity problems within hockey and provide a free two-year program to primary-aged children from local state schools. Over the past two years, they have been enjoying regular coaching sessions with Rémy and his team of volunteers along with taking part in regular hockey festivals and competing against other teams. This included Southwark Hockey Tournament recently, where Phoenix came 1st and 2nd. The program has had such a positive effect on the children involved, it has been noted that the children are now sharing knowledge from their time at Phoenix during playtime and P.E. with their peers further developing children within their school.

Congratulations to the whole team and we look forward to welcoming the next cohort of hockey players!
