W4s Match Report

THD W4s  3-0 East London W6
Saturday 11th February 2023

After heading into the Christmas break on a high with some good wins under their belts, it seemed the Women’s 4s had started to find their form this season. However, after some tricky fixtures against teams placed higher in the league, the 4s found themselves hunting for their first win of the year.

With home advantage and playing a team lower in the league, the 4s arrived at Dulwich college in good spirits and cracked on with the warm-up.

Shortly after the pushback, the 4s defence found themselves under pressure. Vanessa Wilson (normally a star forward) found herself in the defensive lineup (due to Jess Hart running ever so slightly late) and accidentally gave away an early short corner which was swiftly saved and dealt with by Wilson. She was off the hook.

Jess Hart kitted up and ran onto the pitch to organise the 4s defensive line. A normal service resumed.

The 4s dominated the first half. The coaches will be pleased to hear that set pieces learnt at training that week were put into practice (next time we will remember to share the tactics with the person taking the long corner - sorry Nat!).

The first-half domination continued with a number of shots on goal. Millie Gibson finally got the breakthrough from the top of the D. 1-0 to THD. Gibson was hunting for a second, and another cracking shot from the top of the D found the backboard. 2-0 to THD.

A brace for Gibson.

THD found themselves awarded a short, but with all usual injectors on the bench, Romy Threadgold stepped up. A slow injection bobbled to the top of the D, a pass from Gibson to Threadgold, who was perfectly positioned - and with the defence nowhere to be seen, she slotted it in.

The half-time whistle went, and THD found themselves 3-0 up and complaining about the lack of half-time sweets.

The second half was goalless, but East London came out fighting (perhaps they had a few more half-time sweets). Some top saves from the goalie Kitty and a stellar performance from the defence kept the score at 3-0 and East London began mummers of their relegation battle.

With a solid win, and a few games in hand, the team are positive going into the last few games of the season.

Player of the Match: Millie Gibson (for the goals)

DOD: Jess Hart (for teaching us Italian mannerisms)
