Men are better than women...

Men are better than women...

Well only statistically and only this week. Three very important wins for the Men's half of the club saw impact in both promotion and relegation battles.

The Tornados & Diamonds convincing wins have set up last day of the season nail biters for promotion although the Play-off Cup spots are at least secured already. Elsewhere the Mens 1s took a very valuable three points in the hunt to stave off relegation. Leaving only three games to go against 2nd, 4th & 5th its going to be tight!

However, not a great week for the women with a clean sweep of losses. Even with some good performances coupled with large periods of domination there were no wins this week. Both the 1s, 2s and 3s were narrowly beaten by one goal - in the case of the 2s though, it was an own goal! The 1s were reduced to 10 players for most of the game due to injury and sickness. Despite taking the lead early on they succumbed by the final whistle.

The Womens 4s & 5s had no games this week but return to action next Saturday.

On Sunday the Dragons gave Spencer a bit of a thrashing. They won the game 8-2 with Charley Williams scoring a hat trick!

Back on track...

THD bounced back from last weekend to record some convincing and much needed wins. There were also some very well earned draws that kept a steady flow of points into the red & green pot of South London hockey.

The promotion pushes are still there for the Diamonds & the Tornados who both recorded wins on Saturday. The Mens 2s & 3s are also finishing the season with a flourish with wins this weekend for both. However, the 1s are flirting with disaster after losing to basement boys Chiswick and leaving them only a few points above the drop.

Results for the Women's section saw points collected with draws for the 1s & 5s and a win for the beleaguered 6s.

The Womens 2s played a double header weekend that ended honours even with a win against Thames Valley on Saturday and a loss to Old Cranleighans on the Sunday.

Despite the upturn of recent weeks the Womens 4s slipped to 1-0 reverse against South Godstone and the Womens 3s were overpowered by a well drilled Guildford.

Small ray of sunshine...

Amongst a weekend of disappointing results, the Womens 1s managed to grind out an ugly win against fellow mid-tablers Hampstead & Westminster.

The only other women's side in action were the 6s - playing a re-arranged fixture against Reigate Priory - who lost heavily 1-8.

All the men's sides bar the 2nds were in action this weekend and from a total of five matches only 2 points were gained for the club. The Mens 1s had another high score draw of 4-4 following on from last weeks 5-5. The Mens 3s couldn't quite hold on to their one-goal lead and ended up drawing 1-1.

The remaining mens sides fell victim to a variety of Old Loughts sides... leaving the Diamonds clinging on to a promotion spot by goal difference and Tornados having to re-focus upon the Play-off cup.

A miserable Sunday afternoon saw the Dragons successfully negotiate round two of the HA Trophy versus an under-strength Wimbledon.

Points & disappoints...

Overall a more positive weekend for most of the 13 teams in action. A very chilly Saturday saw convincing wins for the Womens 1s, Tornados, Royals, Womens 2s & Womens 6s. Over 30 goals scored by the various teams in the club this weekend.

Both the Mens 1s & Mens 2s came away with a point after their matches. The 1s game saw a spirited fightback and the 2s saw yellow... five times in 70mins!

The Mens 3s took a 7-0 drubbing from Richmond and the Diamonds slipped up against another Richmond team, losing 4-2 at Dulwich College. There were also losses also for the Womens 4s and 5s.

Sunday, also saw both the Dragons win their league match and the Womens 1s win their HA Trophy game.

February sees glory return...

A new month and fortunes have changed for many of last week's losing teams. All the lower men's sides won with the Diamonds & Tornados back on the promotion trail. The Womens 3s won and Womens 4s also ran out victors - impressively the Womens 4s appear to have turned a corner after racking up back to back wins.

The Royals snatched a last minute controversial goal to win a game that was, until the last 90 secs, petering out into a unimpressive draw.

The senior sides didn't fair as well with both then Mens 1s and the Womens 1s losing out by the slimmest of 1 goal margins. However, while the Womens 2s rested this week, the Mens 2s managed to secure their fifth draw of the campaign.

Nothing to shout about with the Womens 5s & Womens 6s as they continue their losing streaks into February.

And in the final match of the weekend the Dragons won their table topping clash against Real Battersea.

January jitters...

January jitters...

A small ray of success shone out this weekend as the Womens 4s won only their third competitive match of the season, and already their second of the year! The Mens 3s also took full points in a well below par match against Oxford Uni.

The news elsewhere is a little grim. The Mens 1s lost 5-2 in the league and were dumped out the HA Trophy the following day by the same scoreline. Promotion chasers the Diamonds & the Tornados both lost their fixtures although promotion is still possible for both.

The remaining games saw losses for the Womens 2s, 3s, 5s & 6s and the Royals had to concede their game with Wimbledon due to a lack of players. No matches for the Womens 1s, Mens 2s or Dragons who all return to action next week.

Maidenhead get a quadruple battering!

Sunday 22-Jan-06

Maidenhead get a quadruple battering!

The weekend saw the return fixtures for the Men's section against various Maidenhead sides - resulting in a whitewash for the mighty red & green's. The 2s, 3s, Tornados & Royals all took three points from their games.

The Men's 1s who don't play Maidenhead until nest week warmed up with a 5-0 drubbing of Gore Court. The Diamonds were on a rest weekend

News from the Women's section was not so rosy. Apart from a win for the 3s and a draw for the 2s the rest were losses. The Women's 1s were only involved in a friendly - but they won that.

Sadly, the Dragons lost 4-1 to an Optimists side that were unwilling to provide a goalkeeper for the first half. A bad tempered game made worse by a shocking piece of umpiring by the visitng umpire. Very disappointing.

January blues? Not in South West London!

Tuesday 17-Jan-06

January blues? Not in South East London!

Almost a full set of fixtures this week with six teams running out as winners. The 3s & the Diamonds were the men's only victorious sides but the Womens 3s, 4s & 1s were on song for the Women's section.

Sadly T5 found themselves facing no-one as their opposition failed to show up! While the Men's 1s found the net on four occasions and only got a draw from it.

The men's section saw the Royals just edged out by Indian Gym and the 2s on the wrong end of an 8-0 thrashing. The Tornados had a rest week. In the women's section only the 2s and the 6s got beaten. The scores were 1-4 and 0-4 respectively.

The Dragons get back to winning ways and edge back to the top of their division, although Real Battersea can steal their spot if they win their game in hand.
