Sunday 15-Oct-06Mens 2s lift the gloom...
In a weekend with lots to celebrate at the Awards Dinner, there wasn't much to shout about on the pitch. The highlight was the Mens 2s continuing their early season form to batter an insipid Reading into a 7-2 submission.
Elsewhere in the Men's section, the 1s & Royals lost again where as both the 3s and Tornados secured draws against strong Reading opposition.
In the Women's half of the club only the 5s managed to get any points with a 1-1 draw against Epsom. The remaining games saw all the THD teams defeated.
No games this weekend for the Diamonds, Womens 2s or the Dragons. |

Sunday 08-Oct-06Winning weekend!
One of the best weekend's for the club since its inception in 2002. A staggering six league wins and one draw out of nine games! Honours were shared amongst both sections of the club.
The Women's section saw wins for the 1s, 2s and 3s, with a 3-3 draw for the 6s. Only T5 lost as the 4s were resting this weekend. This leaves both the 1s & 2s in very commanding positions at the top of their leagues.
Over in the Men's section the results were equally impressive with the 2s, 3s & Tornados all winning againts London Wayfarers... and with some style! Sadly, the 1s slipped up again with another 2-1 reverse and the Diamonds were narrowly squeezed out by Indian Gym in a game that neither side deserved to win.
Elsewhere the Royals secured a good 1-1 draw against Bromley & Beckenham Weasels in their friendly match.
Sunday saw the Dragons slip to a very rare defeat. Perhaps hangovers were to blame but nonetheless a 4-6 beating from Spencer was a real disappointment. Fortunately with the club Awards Dinner next Saturday evening the Dragons have no game until a fortnight's time! |

Monday 02-Oct-06And they're off...
The weekend of the 30-Sep finally saw the commencement of the Men's leagues as well. After an extensive program of pre-season over the last month the whole club was in action competitively... except for the Tornados who start the season with a rest week!
Overall the club didn't really take the world by storm with only 4 wins from 10 games. Still there was much to be heartened by - matches should not always be judged by scores alone.
The Men's section saw all matches go the way of the opposition with only the 2s securing any points. Bearing in mind recent 2s seasons this kind of start is nothing short of sensational.
In the Women's section the news was much better. The 4s fought out their second win in as many weeks to go top of their table and both the 1s & 2s also continued their good form. Both the 5s & 6s lost.
No games for the Tornados, Womens 3s or the Dragons who all return to action next week. |

Saturday 23-Sep-06The Season begins... kinda...
The season is officially here - well at least for the Women's Section. A real mixed bag - with some great wins and some very disappointing losses.
The 1s & 2s both recorded good wins to get their campaigns kick started - as did the 4s. Unfortunately, the 3s took a bit of a pasting and the 5s slipped up 4-2 away.
In the Men's section the news was a lot better and the results a lot less important - as this weekend was still pre-season. The Tornados, Royals & 1s all won with cricket scores, whereas the 2s lost narrowly away and the Diamonds took a beating at home.
Next weekend sees the leagues start for the Men's sides - wich mens that the season has officially started! |

Sunday 17-Sep-06Pre-Season continues...
The second week of pre-season saw some highs and lows. A lot of improvement throughout the club, and while not all the results went to the red & green teams, performances suggest that spaces in the trophy cabinet should be found come the season's end.
The mens section took a battering at the hands of Hampstead & Westminster with only the Diamonds coming away with any points - winning 2-1. The Tornados did get to level terms against their opposition but then let it slip and lost 4-2. However, both the 3s & 2s lost.
The womens section saw a good 3-3 draw for the 1s against a team from a higher division. Whereas both the intra-club games ended honours even with a 2-2 draw in the 4s vs 5s and a 0-0 draw in the 2s vs 3s. The 6s took a bit of a spanking away at Cheam.
On Sunday a total goalfest for the Dragons saw Aidan Brock score 7 of the 8 THD goals in an 8-6 thriller... a great game to watch but not a great game to play in defence |

Sunday 12-Sep-06Pre-Season begins...
Trials have come and gone and pre-season for many of the teams is in full swing. Some mixed results for the Men, a very good result for the Womens 2s and an unanticipated win in the intra club friendly.
The Womans 2s ran out comfortable winners against Wimbledon, elsewhere the Womens 4s narrowly beat the Womens 3s 3-2 at Crystal Palace. In the Mens section both the 2s & 3s gained creditable draws against Spencer while the Diamonds & Royals took quite a heavy beating against their respective opponents. The Tornados - who were playing Old Loughts - lost 6-1.
The Mens 1s lost 3-1 last weekend to BBHC and are in action again on Monday evening. |

Thursday 07-Sep-06Dont get stuck with your stick!
All players and clubs are reminded that the stick bow rule that was introduced to international hockey in January 06 (published to the England Hockey website and publications from June 05 onwards) was introduced to ALL hockey at all levels on 1st June 2006. It is essential that you check your playing stick and ensure that the bow does not exceed 25mm. If it is more than 25mm it will be confiscated if checked.
How do you measure it?Lay the stick face down on a flat and level surface (e.g. a table on a level floor) and measure the gap (at the deepest point) from the edge / underside of the stick to the table. If the space is in excess of 25mm, it's time to think about replacing the stick with a newer model.
Umpires or match officials can check sticks at any game, at any level, so please be prepared. If you or your club would like to buy a stick bow measure please click here to download the England Hockey 06/07 Technical News. |
