Losses, Draws & Trophy glory...

A reduced fixture list this weekend - due to half term and rest weeks - meant only five teams took to the pitch on Saturday. With the results going the way the did... most of those five teams would have wished they'd had a break too!

The men's section had the 1s, 3s, Tornados & Royals in action - with 3 of the four ending up on the losing side. Only the 3s manged to salvage anything and that was just a point for their draw.

Of the women, only the 1s were in action in a top of the table clash between them in first place on goal difference and their rivals from second place - Hampstead & Westminster. The contest ended honours even which means the promotion contest is going right to the wire.

The Dragons took to the field again on Sunday in round two of the HA Trophy. They gave Middleton & Bognor Mixed an 8-1 thrashing at Dulwich College.

Winter weather abates...

The sudden onset of a snowy winter only resulted in the Womens 2s being cancelled down in deepest darkest Thames Ditton. So nearly all the scheduled games went ahead at the weekend.

This weekend's best results were in the men's section. The 2s, Tornados & Royals won convincingly but the 1s lost. Neither the 3s nor the Diamonds had matches.

In the women's section the 1s kept up the promotion push by only gaining a point and still managing to hold on to the top spot. In the remaining four games the fours also drew but both the 3s & 5s lost. The 6s match was postponed as their opposition were unable to raise a side.

Sunday saw both the Womens 1s and the Dragons in action. The Womens 1s played in the third round of the HA Trophy against Teddington and ran out 5-2 winners. The Dragons had a harder time of it at Battersea Park and only managed a draw against PHC Chiswick mixed.

Only women win...

Only women win...

Only a few results to celebrate this weekend as there were a lot of cancellations or rest weeks. However, both the Womens 1s and the 6s chalked up victories in their encounters.

Very few games in the Men's section with both the 3s & Diamonds opposition pulling out and the Tornados on a rest week. Sadly all the other fixtures played resulted in reversals for all THD teams.

The Women's section had five fixtures to play this weekend. After the wins by both the 6s and the 1s were completed the remaining results were all THD losses. The 2s rested this week and resume next week in third with a game in hand.

Sunday saw the Dragons in action against a depleted Daquiris side at Battersea Park - the match finished with the Dragons winning 7-3.

All the 1s lead the way...

All the 1s lead the way...

Both of the premier teams in the club put together back-to-back wins this week to lead from the front. Results going favourable for the Women means that promotion is still a distinct possibibility. Where as 14 goals in two weeks from the Men lifts them right out of the relegation battle.

The rest of the Mens' section didn't fare so well - although the highlight was a win for the Diamonds... their first 'official' win of the campaign. While the 2s had a rest week the remaining teams lost to their opposition.

In the Womens' section the news was brighter with the 2s winning 1-0 away and the 3s could only manage a draw against Woking Vets. While the 4s had a rest week both the 5s & 6s slipped to defeat.

Sunday's HA Trophy match saw the Dragons progress to the next round after a 4-2 victory against Wimbledon Mixed.

Tornados weather the storm...

Sunday 21-Jan-07

Tornados weather the storm...

In amongst a weekend of scrappy results the Tornados extended their unbeaten run to six games with a drubbing of a lacklustre Reading. The Mens 1s also saw a return to form with a 7-1 pasting of West Hampstead, while the Womens 1s eased past their opposition 3-1 in their friendly fixture.

The other men's games saw the the 2s lose narrowly and the Royals take a humping from the HAC Sutlers. Both the 3s & the Diamonds had their fixtures cancelled by the opposition. The Diamonds match was only a friendly but the 3s were awareded a walkover for their game.

Elsewhere in the women's section the only other winners were the 4s who took Horley to pieces 4-0. All the other sides lost bar the 3s who had a rest week.

Sunday saw the Dragons rack up their second successive draw in as many weeks when they played Real Battersea.

Warning all opposition...

Monday 15-Jan-07

Warning all opposition...

A good start to 2007 saw many of the Tulse Hill & Dulwich teams set out their stalls. A lot of good victories - including a clean sweep of doubles for the Mens 2s, 3s & Tornados completed against local hapless rivals London Wayfarers - will mean that many of the teams are still chasing those coveted promotional places. What happens over the next few weeks remains to be seen - but you can only win the games one at a time!

The Men's section saw matches for all but the Royals scheduled. Wins of one kind or another saw all five of the sides in action walk away with 3 points!

Good news in the Women's section too but not quite as good. Of the fives games scheduled only the 3s & 6s left their matches without any rewards. The 4s took a point, whereas a win for the Womens 1s in Sunday saw them progress to the next level of the HA Trophy.

Also playing Sunday - the Dragons came from behind four times during the game to finally walk off the pitch honours even.

Dragon you into 2007...

Sunday 07-Jan-07

Dragon you into 2007...

The Dragons kicked off the new year in some style with an absolute drubbing of London Edwardians - winning by 11-1 on Sunday!

The two halves told two different stories with both team struggling to shake off the holiday excesses and at the break it was 2-1. However, a lot of luck and some seriously good playmaking saw the Dragons eclipse the oppo with goal after goal.

And so the second half of the season begins... lots to play for with numerous teams having promotional potential. Most teams are back in action next weekend and so it could probably be worth your new year's resolution to be making it to training!

Not so fantastic four...

Sunday 17-Dec-06

Not so fantastic four...

Just the four matches scheduled and not a single point to show. Both the Diamonds and the Men's 3s took on Hampstead & Westminster sides - while the 3s were soundly beaten a valiant performance from the Diamonds left them unlucky not to finish honours evens.

However, bad days at the office saw both the Royals and the Men's 2s finish runners-up in their games.

That completes the first half of the season and the first team to take to the pitch in 2007 will be the Dragons in their fixture against London Edwardians on 07-Jan.

Sunday 10-Dec-06

Three wins from nine...

In the penultimate weekend of hockey before Xmas there were three wins amongst a raft of losses. The men's section fared better than the women's by racking up all of those three wins.

All the men's sides were in action on Saturday. The 1s recorded a much needed win, where as the Tornados and the Mens 2s finally managed to produce the sort of form that has so often been elusive. However, the 3s, Diamonds and Royals were all well beaten on their travels.

Only three games were scheduled in the women's section with the 1s, 5s & 6s having already finished for Xmas. In the games played the 2s, 3s and 4s were all beaten.

Next weekend sees a few Men's fixtures left to be played with all the sides - except the Tornados & Men's 1s - in action.
