Mens 1s win and Womens 1s draw...

Mens 1s win and Womens 1s draw...

Week two of the 09/10 season saw the Mens 1s playing both saturday & Sunday. The first game was the opening match of their league campaign where they ran out 3-2 winner, unfortunately Sunday's HA Cup match saw them eliminated 12-0 against a very strong Reading side. The Womens 1s drew their 2nd league match to keep their unbeaten start to the season intact.

Elsewhere in the mens section both the 2s & 3s were upset 1-3 versus strong opposition while the Division 5 clash of the Tornados vs. Diamonds ended honours even at 2-2. The Roaysl also drew their encounter but the Saracens made it two wins from two with a late goal against Hampstead & Westminster.

The womens section were all in action bar the 3s who were on an early rest week. The 2s won for the 2nd week running while the 4s also managed to get three points. Unfortunately both the 5s & 6s were beaten.

The Dragons played their first match in the Battersea League on Sunday and some early season rustiness saw them go 3-0 down only to run out of time with their fightback. The game finished 2-3.

Week one kicks off with some style...

So for most the season kicked off on Saturday - only the Mens 1s are still waiting to start with their league commencing next week and the Womens 6s who had their game cancelled. Headlines and applause have to go to the Womens 1s and Tornados who kicked of in stlye by winning 5-0 and 4-0 respectively.

Elsewhere in the Mens section the 2s fought back from a poor first half to lose 1-3 away to Surbiton. The 3s took part in a game with more flicks than an 80s hairdressers to end honours even at 4-4. The remaining matches saw the Diamonds lose 1-3 away, the Royals lose narrowly 2-3 in the dying minutes and new boys - the Saracens - win their first match 2-0.

The Womens section saw similar mixed results with the 2s winning 4-1 comfortably. However, the remaining sides in action - the 3s, 4s & 5s all lost their encounters. The 3s in particular being the victims of one of the most incorrect and bizarrely awarded flick ever seen! The 6s picked up all three points as their opposition were unable to raise a side.

No action for the Dragons at the weekend but the Battersea League begins this Sunday. Also on Sunday the Mens 1s are away to Reading in Round 2 of the HA Cup.

Pre-Season begins & Mens 1s Cup Success...

The last two weekend's have seen many of the THD teams playing pre-season matches with a limited amount of success. The Mens sides have had a full programme of matches to help them ease back into hockey. This culminated last weekend with nearly all sides in action against Old Loughts.

THD had the beating of Old Loughts in two of the 5 encounters with both the Mens 2s & Diamonds successfully beating their opposition - both away from home!

The Mens 1s have had little success in their pre-season matches so far but Sunday saw them up against Banbury in the first round of the HA Cup. Despite being deadlocked at 1-1 at the end of time, THD showed their class by and held their nerve to win on penalty flicks. Banbury will be disappointed as they handed the victory to the home side by putting two of their flicks high & wide!

Next round of the Cup is the 3rd Oct and THD have the toughest draw possible away to current holders Reading who also boast a fair few international caps amongst their ranks. That said, this is THD... so you never know!

England Crowned Euro Champions…

It has been an incredible end to the month with England's men being crowned European Champions for the first time ever and the England women winning bronze at the EuroHockey Nations Championships in Amstelveen.

Throughout both the men's and women's tournaments, England put in consistently impressive performances with superb individual displays contributing significantly to the teams' medal winning positions. Congratulations to both teams and their coaching staff on their successes. Congratulations also go to James Fair and Ashley Jackson who picked up the Goalkeeper of the Tournament and Player of the Tournament awards respectively in the men's tournament and the England women's team, who won the Fair Play Award in their competition.

If you missed out on any of the match reports from either tournament you can read them all again at www.englandhockey.co.uk/euromen and www.englandhockey.co.uk/eurowomen.

Pre-Season Fitness Training...

It may seem very early to begin pre-season but, with the advent of the new rules, fitness is going to prove to be even more crucial this year than it has previously. West Hampstead turned over in nervy friendly...

16-Jul-09

West Hampstead Get Revenge...

A very rainy Thursday night saw the return fixture take place against West Hampstead Mixed. The first match, which was played at Dulwich College on Tuesday night in May, saw a mixed strength Dragons win 3-2.

The return fixture was, as expected, to be vastly different affair - with West Hampstead fielding a much stronger team than last time around. As it happened the teams were separated by just a single goal again as 4-3 but this time the spoils went to West Hampstead.

So both teams walk away with a home win after two matches. The only real difference between the two sides being that THD managed to score one more away goal than their opponents. The next friendly for the THD Dragons will be against Epsom HC but, before then, they will open their season in the Battersea Mixed Leage in October.

THD Launches New Club Kit...

For the start of the new season Tulse Hill & Dulwich Hockey Club have launched a new kit. After 7 or so years the current club kit has a number of different 'versions' that means that many of the teams take to the pitch with a collection of different tops. In addition to the this the club wanted to ensure that there was official kit for both away matches and mixed games.

The new kit will still continue to combine the best of the old Tulse Hill HC & the old Dulwich HC kit - therefor still featuring both red & green. The main changes will be that the women's sides will change green shorts/skirts to match the colour worn by the mens sides and the Mens 1s will no longer wear a different designed shirt to the rest of the club.

The new kit is optional for the 2009/10 season (although the old style kit is no longer being sold) and will become compulsory from the start of the 2010/11 season. In the meantime the kit is discounted until the end of 2009 to encourage people to make the switch as soon as possible. Any new players to the club will only have the option of purchasing the new kit.

In addition to the playing kit there is a range of other Tulse Hill & Dulwich branded clothing available too.

THD launched on twitter...

The hockey club has gone one step futher (technically) and launched a twitter account to work hand in hand with the Facebook account. This way, as well as using Facebook to show all the upcoming events, the club can also use twitter - which can be shared account for a number of the club officers - to keep you updated on what is happening in the club right as it happens!

Up until now any news items have been limited to html that is written and then ftp'd to the webserver. With Twitter there can now be real time adverts via sms, web or email completed by a number of different users.

At the moment those who will access to the twitter news feed will be Mark Jones, Linds McLaren, Lucy Snell, Tim Sylvester, Aidan Brock, Claire Perrott and Ram.

So if you have any breaking news then let one of the above know and they can 'twitter' it direct onto the news pages!
