Match Reports Summer 2003

Since 2003/04 the club has produced a weekly newsletter, during the season, containing match reports from each of the games played that weekend.

Guildford Tour (18/20-Jul-03)

A stunning summery weekend was the setting for the Dragon's first taste of real Festival hockey. The results were not the important focus for the weekend... what counted was fun & beers - and not necessarily in that order! The team was split into three groups... the hardcore arrived on Friday evening, the more precious came down on Saturday morning and the workers made it in time for the drinking on Saturday night! The set-up was very similar to EGs with two new, quality astros (one water, one sand) and a very good clubhouse.

The weekend went smoothly but not as smoothly as the drinking. Karaoke on Friday, Hog Roast & Skool Disco on Saturday and a BBQ on Sunday. The bar ran out of most drinks on Saturday night... second tour running that happened and the Dragons and LadyBoys were there on both occassions - surely that could be the reason in itself! As per form the results look slightly shabbier on the second day to the first but overall it was still the most impressive result for the Dragons - Finishing in 2nd place! The Purple Nasties (quite literally) ran out as the eventual winners and received a rather nasty looking shield for their efforts... we only won the raffle (courtesy of Marie) and a crate of beer - moral victory nonetheless!

Various awards were also given out this weekend to those who were most deserving. In true hockey festival spirit these awards were all invented at the end of the weekend. The winners were as follows: Latest arrival on tour (Lou Morgan)... Best legs in a THD hockey skirt (Will Nurse)... Most impressive rearrangement of the Surrey countryside while off pitch and sober (Tom Alexander)... Shortest time with/in own tent - including time spent looking for tent mysteriously mislaid after being pitched (Will Nurse)... Most time spent chasing posh totty (JC)... Sleeping in the bar on tour (Marie and EJ)... Most Effeminate Looking Goalie (Aido)... Best Dictionary Definition For Eye Licking (Banners)... Person Most Likely To Do A Jake (Jake)... Most Feeble Effort To Put Away A Sleeping Bag (EJ)... Crappest Streak Ever (That chubby girl in the black cape)... Biggest kicking (Tom on himself)... Best wasp puncher (Riley)... Tightest trousers... (Imma) & Most comedy hangover (Lucy).
