Match Reports 2004/05

Since 2003/04 the club has produced a weekly newsletter, during the season, containing match reports from each of the games played that weekend.

Thurs 07-Oct-04

Issue 01

As THD moves into its third season, welcome back to news of the weekly exploits of South London's finest with this bumper edition of match reports. And watch this space, for the THD phoenix seems to have risen from this summer's ashes with more early season venom than usual. Witness first game wins for the Men's 1s, 2s and 4s, a 7-0 thumping handed out by the Women's 3s and a 6 point weekend for the Women's 1s. It may just be third season lucky, of course, but I can't help thinking we're still riding on the high from those late summer weddings - congrats to Wardy, Wiggy, Lee and Emily amongst others. In other news from the off-season, the women won the Battersea Tournament for the second year in succession and the Dragons toured with louche distinction.

But to the future, and there's much to look forward to both on the pitch and off. First up, is the Club's Annual Dinner and Awards at the Clubhouse on 30th October. Tickets are now on sale from captains - a snip at £25 a head so make sure you get your order in early - you never know who you might team up with. While on the subject of money, SUBS are now due . Anyone who has not paid needs to do so ASAP

Match reports by: Gareth Weir, Richard Banwell, Aidan Brock, James Terrett, Mark Jones, Graeme Evans, Jo Malkin, EJ Barry, Kate Selway, Joanna Reynolds, Lindsey McLaren, Anna Stuttard, Frances Barber, Michelle Morgan and Emma Gilchrist.

2/10/04 Men's 1st vs. Gore Court: won 4-1

A solitary school astro turf, gusty autumn winds, driving rain and 0-1 down in the first 5 minutes, THD had started the new season! With some fresh faces and after a hectic pre-season work out, it took us 15 minutes or so to settle and impose our style on the game. Once in our stride though, and with the back 5 producing a solid basis on which to build, the front 6 began to connect and produce excellent chances, a couple of which were converted into "Brazilian" goal of the month contenders. Olly Morgan ("don't shoot, pass - arh great finish") dinked past three in the D to drive the ball home on the reverse from an impossible angle and Tom Curry neatly rounded the keeper to slot the ball home and complete his "Rooney like" debut hat trick after some great work in the midfield. In short, it was a positive start to what promises to be a very entertaining season. (GW)

Team: Andrew Eames, Gareth Weir, Justin Collins, Oliver Morgan, Clive Colloff, Greg McAllister, Will Brownsden, Joel Burrows, Peter Ellis, Will Brown, James Ireson, Andy Balchin, David Weir, Tom Curry (man of the match).

Scorers: Tom Curry (3), Oliver Morgan.

3/10/04 Men's 1s v Staines 1s (HA Cup Second Round): lost 4-5

After a good result on Saturday confidence was high. However, a shaky start left us 3-1 down at half time. With two and sometimes three Staines forwards playing very high up the pitch we had to defend deeper, which made it difficult to move the ball effectively into good midfield positions, yet we always looked dangerous when we attacked on the break. In the second half we managed to find a better rhythm, producing some very effective hockey, based upon better movement, early passing and a more consistent reproduction of basic skills. A remarkable passage of play saw us draw level and then take the lead at 4-3. A harsh yellow to Pete Ellis reduced us to 10 men and provided Staines with the opportunity to press. Regrettably they took their opportunities to ease ahead with only a few minutes remaining, Ellis returning from suspension as soon as Staines' lead was restored. A tough, wet afternoon without much to show for it. Thanks for coming. (RB)

Team: Justin Collins, David Weir, Clive Colloff, Andrew Eames (c), Ben Wright, Richard Banwell, Will Brown, Peter Ellis, Oliver Morgan, Gareth Weir, Andrew Balchin, Tom Curry, James Ireson.

Scorers: Andrew 'Boutros Boutros' Balchin (2), Tom 'Jalfreizi' Curry (1), James Ireson.

Next match: Saturday 9th October vs. Barnes - 14.00 @ DC

25/09/04 Men's 2s vs. Hounslow & Ealing: won 5-3

Starting this season's campaign against newly demoted Hounslow would seem like a daunting challenge. Buoyed, however, by some new faces and the re-appearance of the new improved whiteboard (v.2005, complete with indelible pitch markings), we set about the task at hand with gusto. The new guidelines to keep the game flowing seem to suit our style of play and with an international umpire at one end the backchat was kept to a minimum. Tim and Bungle pulled the strings in midfield which unleashed our potent attacking force of Snowy, Potty, Pete and Jimmy to great effect. At the back we were workmanlike, if not spectacular, nevertheless yours truly was just glad to get his first outfield match in over a year under his (slightly too tight) belt. We dominated the majority of the game and fully deserved this great result which could so easily have been 8 or 9-3 given the number of open play chances created. TH&D 2nd XI scoring goals for fun & leading the league?, surely I'll wake up soon and realise it was all a dream. Let's hope not, keep up the good work..... (AB)

Team: Wiggy (GK), Aidan Brock, Mark Pulford , Neil Happs, Ferg Jagger, Graeme Fotheringham (Bungle), Tim Davies, Chris Coleman, Lee Snowden, Andy Potapa, Pete Howland, Jimmy Ireson, Matt Groom.

Scorers: Potty (x2), Chris C, Pully(PC), Tim.

Next Fixture: Saturday 9th October vs. Oxford University - 12:30 @ DC

25/09/04 Men's 3s vs. St Albans 3s: Lost 0-4

St Albans got their goals in the first and last minutes of each half, with a very even contest in-between. The "goal sandwich" was played at a very high tempo, which initially suited the team's aggressive open style, but punished us in the last twenty minutes, as the game became a (fitness)free-for-all. Unfortunately we hadn't bought a goal scoring ticket and put too many well worked chances wide or they were saved well by the giant St Albans goalkeeper. Excellent performances from Thom Ruane, Stuart Craig and Man of the Match Jeremy Porter (A more tense MOTM vote in the bar for the golden pint I have never seen) kept us in the game till the very end. St Albans are a very strong side in the division and, reassuringly, on another day we could have got something out of the game. (JT)

Team: Jeremy Porter, Stuart Craig, Simon Wilshire, Mike Tyrell, Thom Ruane, Neil Smith, Nick Harris, James Terrett, Steve Bowles, Graeme Evans, Duncan McCulloch, Geoff Pritchard.

Umpire: Toby Wheadon

2/10/04 Men's 3s vs. Oxford Uni. 3s: won 5-0 (walkover)

My fun on a Friday evening was temporarily ruined by a message from Oxford Uni. saying they didn't have enough players to send a team to Dulwich College to be taken apart from the amazing team that is the Men's 3s. What is doubly disappointing is that this week we have a slip date which means we are without matches for two consecutive weeks. Now I've made you aware of that bombshell, I hope you'll all be able to sleep at night. (JT)

Team: N/A.

Umpire: N/A.

Scorer: Aidan's Whiteboard (5)

Next match: Saturday 16th October vs. Wayfarers - away

2/10/04 Men's 4s (Tornados) vs. Richmond Stags: won 3-2

All together (in the voice of Lou Reed)... "Oh what a perfect day... etc. etc.". We came, we saw, we knocked the ball about a bit... WE WON! Guilty at times of passing the ball too much and even letting the opposition have it now and again. Goals came from a slightly embarrassing plodder by Nick Harris that sneaked under the keeper followed up by an outstanding individual goal from Loz. Still the trademark 4s 'mad minutes' are still here this season & we let the oppo sneak back to level terms... however, the 4s weren't gonna roll over this time and Bungle calmly placed a goal nicely in the bottom left corner. Awesome start against one of the best teams in the League... Wayfarers next week... they should be very afraid! (MJ)

Team: Gavin Lawson(GK), Mark Jones, Ben Udy, Tom Alexander, Nick Thomson, Rich Fenton, Dan Higgins, Graeme Fotheringham, Will Atkinson, Nick Harris, Andy Potapa, Loz Mockery & Lee Snowden.

Umpire: Simon Riley.

Scorer(s): Nick Harris, Loz Mockery & Graeme Fotheringham

Next match: Saturday 9th October vs. London Wayfarers 5s - 11.00 @ DC

2/10/05 Men's 5s vs. Reading Rascals: lost 3-4

At half-time it seemed inconceivable that the 5s could lose this one. Bolstered by some impressive summer signings and the decision by 40-year-old Ian Cooper to come out of retirement (for the first and probably not the last time), the new-look 5s were handing out a hockey lesson to their opponents, most of whom were young enough to have been doing double maths the day before. The wise old heads of THD spread the play left and right and frequently cut a swath through the opposition on the way to a 2-1 interval lead. Goals from Pully and John Dakin provided the advantage but in truth the score should have been more. Unlike the Duracell bunny, the 5s rarely have the stamina to keep going and going. The legs got heavier and the off-the-ball movement that characterised the first half disappeared. Reading upped the effort, made a few tactical changes and showed some fine stick skills, although THD can feel hard done by at conceding after a run of six penalty corners. A stunning finish from Aidan got the 5s back in it at 3-3 but that only drew an equally impressive first-time effort from one of the schoolboy contingent. A disappointing conclusion, but still plenty of cause for encouragement. (GE)

Team: Paul Reid, Stuart Craig, Billy Dowie, Graeme Evans, Ian Cooper, Neil Gallagher, Mark Pulford, Aidan Brock, Paul Burrows, Mark, Paul Miller, John Dakin, Mike Killen.

Umpire: JT

Next game: Saturday 9 October vs. Hampstead and Westminster - 13.30 start away

25/09/04 Men's 6s vs. Hounslow & Ealing: lost 0-5

With the new skipper absent, off supporting his girlfriend in the Great North Run (not running it himself I note), the team gathered and set about its usual warm up routine of catching up on gossip they had missed over the summer. Having doled out the requisite number of sticks and shirts, and playing a 'scratch' formation courtesy of the stand-in skipper (yours truly), the guys applied themselves admirably and with great enthusiasm, playing some great running hockey at times whilst tenaciously defending when the need arose. Unfortunately they met an extremely strong Hounslow team which was full of 'ringers', reflecting their policy of starting all new players off in the 6th team and making them work their way up. An encouraging start, despite the score line, and based on that performance everyone should look forward to an enjoyable and more fruitful season ahead. Special mention goes to Reidy who had an absolute stormer in goal and thanks to Si Riley and Tom for being prized out of the bar to umpire/play and play respectively and to Pully for umpiring the 2nd half. (AB)

Team: Paul Reid, Andy Bond, Bill Dowie, Mike McKinnon, Will Pendrill, Kim Keats, Nick Phipps, Si Williams, Neil Tonbridge, Colin Leeman, Mehraab Nazir, Ben Lones, Simon Riley, Tom Alexander.

Umpires: Aidan Brock, Simon Riley, Mark Pulford (2nd half).

Next match: Saturday 9 October vs. HAC Sutlers - 15.30 @ DC

11/09/04 Women's 1s vs. Oxford Hawks: drew 1-1

After sitting in traffic jams for half an hour we ended up in the smallest changing room imaginable. Oxford took the lead in the first half from a corner. We finally moved into gear in the last 15 minutes and equalised when B reacted quickly to a long ball from Rachel deflecting it over their keeper. (JM)

Team: Jo Malkin, Claire Byrne, Kath Sowter, Hils Collins, Kate Selway, Gemma Baker, Rachel Lander, Louise Morgan, Zoey Handforth, Bettina Wolff, Charley Williams and (a puffing) Martha Harvey-Jones.

Scorer: Bettina Wolff

18/09/04 Women's 1s vs. Staines: lost 0-2

If anyone wants anything from Ceelect Sports Martha knows the display very well having stood there for an hour waiting for a lift. As for the hockey they scored one in each half, Rachel had a goal disallowed which should at least have been another corner. (JM)

Team: Jo Malkin, Emma Ward, Kath Sowter, Charley Williams, Nicki Prior, Gemma Baker, Rachel Lander, Claire Byrne, Martha Harvey-Jones, EJ Barry, Emma Kitley, Liz Young.

2/10/04 Women's 1s vs. Teddington: won 2-1

We set off to Broom Road (horrible pitches with horrible backboards) believing we could turn round the uninspiring results of previous weeks. And, so it transpired, with good reason. In the first half we played some of the best hockey we have ever played, zipping the ball round the back with the confidence of national league players (oh eej - ed), moving the ball wide and switching direction at all the right moments. It was this marvelous team play which led to the first goal. A great move by Wardy and Gemma released EJ down the right who crossed the ball into the D for Sarah to get a great first time shot in. The keeper blocked it, but Rachel pounced on the rebound and fired it to the far post, Charley deflecting it beautifully into the net. It was lovely to watch and that was all Pipes our keeper did for the rest of the first half. That we couldn't keep her unoccupied all match had as much to do with our early season (lack of) fitness as with Teddington's revised game plan in the second half. They did take advantage of our collective gathering of breath to push their sweeper into midfield and press us higher up the pitch, and despite impressive defending from Kath (player of the match), Wards, Nicki and Hils, they eventually forced us to concede rather softly from a short. Teddington's recovery though was mostly dogged and never dominant (and no way near as entertaining as the collapsing umpires). By 15 to go we were back in charge and back on top. Rachel capitalised on pressure from the left to score an outstanding individual goal from the top of the D and seal the win. Justice done, mainly with style, but not without a scare. (EJB)

Team: Jo Malkin, Wardy, Kath Sowter, Hilary Collins, Nicky Prior, Gemma Baker, Rachel Lander, Charley Williams, EJ Barry, Sarah Longair, Lou Morgan.

Scorers: Charley Williams, Rachel Lander

3/10/04 Women's 1s vs. West Witney: won 2-0

West Witney (or "Witties" as they insist on calling themselves on the pitch) are an opposition we remember more for the quality of their punching than their hockey. Our previous encounter had been a bad-tempered affair and we expected more the same - especially since we had Lou "Mad-Manc" Morgan back, and their mood can't have been great after getting up in the middle of the night for a 12 noon start at Alleyn's. What nobody could have predicted was the quality of THD's hockey. New girl Nicky at left back (she of the lovely boyfriend who attends all her games) started superbly with fantastic tackling and combined brilliantly with Charley and Lou for the first goal after only five minutes. The ball was moved down the left and Lou won a free hit just inside the 25, which she took quickly to find EJ (squawking like the proverbial free burd) at the edge of the D. The goalkeeper seemed momentarily confused but then decided to help the proceedings by running out of the goal and lying down, allowing EJ to hammer the ball over her. The ball made that satisfying thumping sound as it hit the back board which was a major improvement on Saturday's game against Teddington who have chosen to wrap their back boards in duvets which absorb all sound. THD dominated the rest of the first half with the midfield of Rachel, Gemma and Charley working tirelessly and the defence totally confident, never missing a tackle. Witties got frustrated and a dreadful tackle on Charley as she drove into the circle was punished with a penalty flick which EJ converted to take us 2 nil up at half time. The second half was a slightly different story as the tiredness from two games in two days took its toll and we let them back into to the game for about 15 minutes or so. But never really looked like scoring and we absorbed the pressure well. We then cranked it up a gear for the rest of the match and superb running off the ball from the forwards led to several chances going begging. The final score could easily have been 6 nil but we were very happy with a 2 nil victory and 3 lovely points. So there we have it - SIX points from one weekend - can't remember the last time that happened and joint 3rd in the league! Many thanks to those who came to support, our knackered legs really appreciated it. (EJB)

Team: Jo Malkin, Wardy, Clare Byrne, Nicky Prior, Gemma Baker, Rachel Lander, Charley Williams, EJ Barry, Sarah Longair, Lou Morgan, Kate Selway.

Scorer: EJ (2)

Next match: Saturday 9th October vs. Basingstoke - 11.15 away; Sunday 10th October (HA Trophy) vs. Guildford - 10.30 @ Alleyn's

18/09/04 Women's 2s vs. Wanderers 2s: lost 0-1

Three for the price of one in this opening installment for the 2s. The first three games of the season have been something of a triumph of versatility over lack of availability, but a month in and the line up is beginning to look a little steadier as the wedding season draws to a close. There has been a welcome injection of youth into the side - together Rosie, Emma and Harriet might just make veteran status! And the two young doctors-to-be, Claudie and Nat, will be reassuring when the heart rate monitors of the elder stateswomen start going berserk (er, is that just me?). Game 1 was a disappointment as we struggled to remember our teammates' names and fell victim to some rather poor passing. Poised and composed it was not, although for a first outing with no game play beforehand it would be a harsh judge indeed who didn't focus on the positives - some gutsy individual performances (esp. Nikki P - player of the match) and a good team spirit developing. (KS)

Team: Jo Malkin, Kate Blumer, Emma Ward, Sarah Longair, Zoey Handforth, Liz Young, Sarah Conibear, Lou Morgan, Natalie Shur, Nikki Prior (player of the match), Claudie Sellers, Harriet Gallagher-Powell

25/09/04 Women's 2s vs. Purley Walcountians 2s: won 3-0

Game 2 deserves at least one round of the Hallelujah Chorus. A deflection off a short corner just a couple of minutes in dazed us more than them, and a couple of great individual goals (surely Alex, you can't bear to stay away for too long knowing more goalmouth glory like that is only just around the corner!?) put us on a pedestal just big enough to see that victorious horizon become ours. Very nearly top marks for discipline and decent passing - and for player of the match Liz at left midfield who may now never play left wing again! Oh and the umpire was kissed twice (but it was only Gordon). (KS)

Team: George Sykes, Alex Hardy, Kate Selway, Ali Rendu, Natalie Shur, Sarah Longair, Charley Williams, Liz Young (player of the match), Julie Ferrett, Sarah Conibear, Rona Francis.

Scorers: Kate Selway, Charley Williams, Alex Hardy.

Umpire: Gordon Nurse

2/10/04 Women's 2s vs. London Wayfarers: lost 1-2

Part III of the opening trilogy was a frustrating affair. It was 1-1 for much of the game, but we just couldn't slot that second goal away, despite some good moves up front, several penetrating runs up the right from Ferrett (a big welcome back), and everyone putting in bags of effort. A poor hit out from yours truly led more or less directly to their second goal - and I'd only just been saying thou shalt not hit the ball directly at the opposition! Anyway, not to worry, I have consulted the runes, the tea leaves, and the Oracle at Delphi, and they're all predicting excellent things for the 2s this season so, go girls, go. (KS)

Team: George Sykes, Nikki Smithies, Jules Ingham, Kate Selway, Claudie Sellers, Liz Young, Serra Tezisler, Rosie Carter, Rona Francis, Emma Kitley, Julie Ferrett

25/09/04 Women's 3s vs. Purley Walcountians 3s: won 7-0

Wow, what a game! 7 nil - I think that's more than we scored in the entirety of last season! I thought it was an outstanding performance all round but that the 'young' ones were the real stars. Without Sophie's first goal we might not have found the rest of the match so straightforward as Purley had some good players, moved the ball well and had some close encounters with George's goal! But Sophie settled us all down and from then on we became dominant. The half time scoreline was a Carter whitewash - 3:0 with one from Sophie and two from Rosie. The second half belonged to the half line - Roz scoring 2 cracking goals and Harriet was just outstanding all round - the goals the icing on the cake. Harriet was my player of the match - not just for her play but for her bravery in marking (and tackling) the mad white haired person who looked like the chief android in Blade Runner! Thank you all - especially Sophie. You are welcome to play any time, just let me know if you wish to. (JR)

Scorers: Sophie Carter, Rosie Carter 2, Roz Hornsby 2, Harriet Gallagher-Powell (?)

2/10/04 Women's 3s vs. Wanderers 2s: lost 1-4

Once we had sorted out shirts, socks and names we were ready to go. The team started brilliantly - the first 20 minutes was good, attacking hockey and our pressure was rewarded with a goal from Helen B. We then slipped and concentration slackened so by half time we were 3-1 down - although this wasn't a true reflection of the balance of play. the second half was very even. Lizzie and Helen S linked well up front, Adele coped excellently playing CH in her first game for THD and Helen B was a star at LH. The defence worked hard and we kept the score to 1-0 in the second half, Vicki making a spectacular save towards the end. It's obviously going to be a roller-coaster year full of goals. But if we continue to play this well, then we can only do well in the end! Sonia Kwok was my player of the match. Her touch was excellent, she linked well with her fellow countrywoman (Lizzie) and she came out of every 50/50 with the ball! Good to have you back Sonia! (JR)

Team: Vicki Adkin, Ruth Pratt, Lizzie Gillett, Joanna Reynolds, Sonia Kwok, Jo de Silva, Helen Bartram, Helen Singleton, Lou Curry, Adele Harrison, Cath Garvey, Sophie Carter.

Scorer: Helen Bartram

Umpire: Mark Pulford (huge thank you to him and hope he got to his game ok!)

Next match: Saturday 9 October vs. Spencer - 14.30 @ Alleyn's

25/09/04 Women's 4s vs. Epsom 4s: lost 1-4

The 4s were in great spirits, filled with enthusiasm for our first league match. Once we had done a round of names we were ready to play ball. Epsom and their squad of about a million, just managed to squeeze one past Mel in the early stages of the 1st half. Not letting this get to us, we battled hard to stay in the game. Yorkie and Angela were working well in defense making the most of the youthful Tash on the left. Andrea has some cracking crosses that we just couldn't get on the end of. Then, just before the oranges whistle, they managed to bag another - a**e!. Going into the second half (after calling on our emergency goalkeeper's helmet repair kit) we managed to get one back. Short corner, great strike from Claire, deflection off one of their sticks, straight over the keepers head. 1-2. Things were looking up. We fought on, Angela had a great strike which went in, unfortunately she's been playing football for the past 4 years and forgot you have to be inside the D! Then sadly "lapse of concentration 15" arrived, where it all went horribly wrong and they managed to score another 2 goals without us even noticing. The advantage of 4 subs was coming clear. So we lost 4-1 but there was some very encouraging stuff. (LM)

Team: Mel Bastin, Mel Rees, Linds McLaren, Lynsey Bilsland, Yorkie Soquar (man of the match), Angela Erskine, Claire Whitehead, Andrea Vicari, Faith Geraghty, Tash Riordan Eva and Penny Ganser.

Scorer: Claire Whitehead

Women's 4s vs. Spencer 3s: lost 3-5

Not a great start for the season for the 4s, but there's definitely potential there once we start playing as a team. Spencer are an organized and well coached team and it showed in the first 15 minutes of play, as we endeavored to keep up with their pace, sometimes resulting in sloppy passing and confusion in the defence. We sorted ourselves out and managed to take a 1-0 lead from a short-corner strike from Linds. They were good on the break and played the ball well, scoring 3 good goals from open play. A scrambled effort just before half-time took us to 3-2. A lot of hard work from Emma and Claire in the centre of the field, took us back to 4-3 but once again we were beaten by their passing and conceded one more. Yorkie retained man of the match from last week, thanks to her determined effort and thanks to Vix for putting the goalie kit back on and producing some class saves. (AS)

Team: Vix Streatfield (GK) , Mel Rees, Rosie le Voir, Anna Stuttard, Lindsey McLaren, Lynsey Bilsland, Emma Bilsden, Yorkie Soquar, Kate Fuller, Claire Whitehead, Tash 'Diva', Andrea Vicari. Scorers: Lindsey McLaren, Claire Whitehead (2).

Umpire: JT, Si Riley

Next match: Saturday 9 October vs. Barnes 3s - away

25/09/04 Women's 5s vs. Mid Surrey 2: drew 3-3

Brilliant game. We were all fab. I have never seen such bad luck for us, or such good luck for the oppo. Our goals were amazing, theirs were flukes. We passed the ball to each other (inspired by watching the Women's Firsts, and noticing that they tend to pass the ball to their team mates rather than the opposition), and we had all the possession for most of the game. Sobs all round as Steph leaves us for University (that really, definitely was her absolutely last game, definitely), and we whisper to ourselves, will we be able to score as many goals without her? Of course we will! Bring on Wanderers, we're feeling feisty! (FB)

Team: Frances Barber, Steph Kee, Wendy Tang, Ash McDonald, Rachael Fallows, Katherine Dixon, Nicole Yost, Jackie Monk, Alice Smith, Jean Sutton, with a guest appearance from Anna Stuttard

Scorers: Steph Kee (2), Rachel Fallows.

Next match: Saturday 9th October vs. Merton - away

2/10/04 Women's 6s vs. Addiscombe 3s: won 4-0

The game started with both sides playing well, and lots of excellent passes from THD's forwards. Much of the game was dominated by our attack, though our defenders also did a sterling job, and 6 short corners later we were 2-nil up at half-time. Organic oranges at half time, excellent team work (and spirit!), and persistent forward attack resulted in 2 more goals and a fantastic first win of the season for the sixes! Well done and thanks to everyone who played, particularly Alice for doubling up from the fives game and Isla 'new to hockey' MacGregor who provided the game's comedy moment by running up the pitch the wrong way - you are a star already(!). (MM/EG)

Team: Emma Gilchrist, Isla Macgregor, Pippa Haworth, Gemma Robinson, Sue Sarkar, Fee Mullender, Catherine Lewis, Laura Matthews, Kate Anderson, Kathryn Oliver, Emma, Alice(goalie), Andrea Beattie.

Umpire: Marilyn Walker

Scorers: Emma Gilchrist (2), Pippa Haworth (2).

Next match: Saturday 9th October vs. Cambridge & Farnborough - 1.30 pm @ home.

26/09/04 THD Dragons vs. UCL Academicals (mixed): won 4-2

Like a train leaving Win Town to go to Win City... it's only a short journey from one win to the next! Once again the mixed team's combination of 'our girls are better than theirs' and 'our boys actually pass to our girls' meant that we were a hockey toxin for which UCL had no antidote. They scored twice cos we let them but we scored twice twice! Which means we won by two. A cracking strike by EJ from the most acute of angles meant the oppo were both beaten in spirit and in skill... their heads dropped so we ran out comfortable winners. Unbeaten all season? I don't see why not - there has to be something to aim for! (MJ)

Team: Aidan 'the Cat' Brock (GK), Mark Jones, James 'another Camel' Kirby, Gareth 'Potatoes' Norris, Simon Riley, Will Morgan, Lee Snowden, Gareth Weir, Rebecca Ridgeway, Michelle Morgan, Claire Whitehead, EJ & Lucy Partington (Coach).

Scorers: EJ (2), Claire Whitehead & Rebecca Ridgeway.

Umpire: Claire Whitehead's boyfriend.
