Since 2003/04 the club has produced weekly match reports. From the start of the 2005/06 season this became a weekly newsletter, distributed during the season, containing match reports from each of the games played that weekend as well as other key information and a selection of adverts and offers.
Sun 10-Sep-06Tour Issue 05/06
Another year's worth of has now come to a close and, to be honest, it's kinda hard to remember what happened. There was some hockey and some goals for sure... but there was also a hell of a lot of drinking and some very dodgy dancing. If you really want to know what happened then you should have been there - but just in case you weren't then here's a brief recap. If you like what you read then why not come along next year... after all, touring is not an experience - it's a way of life!
East Grinstead Saints & Sinners Tour
And so the tour season draws to a close for the year... as ever the last tour ends up being one of the best but the season has taken its toll - only 6 players actually make it. But another sunny bank holiday weekend makes it all worthwhile. Some great performances and even some wins along the way... but sadly its the last outing for the Dragon in 2006... still it did get picked for the Festival match and score an own goal - going out in style, if nothing else!
Team: Mark Jones (GK), Tom Alexander, Si Riley, Simon Wilshire, Aidan Brock & Cat Dwyer.
Riverside 7s Mixed Festival
Another weekend and another tour. The 7s tournament in Purley was somewhat marred by the weather but a hastily re-arranged format meant that the Dragons ended up qualifying for the quarter-finals. Sadly, qualifying for them was all they did. However, this weekend will go down as hosting the most awesome game of "I have never".
Team: Mark Jones (GK), Chris Coleman, Chris Richman, Simon Wilshire, James Perrott, Lou Curry, Cat Dwyer, Linds McLaren & Claire Whitehead.
Guildford LadyBoys Festival
The first proper outing for the new dragon kit... no not the shirts for the team - the costume for the goalie! Kitted out in a full body dragon suit, Aidan did a sterling job in goals for the weekend. Alas results this year didn't quite live up to previous years but with the aussie theme in the evening the team kept it real on the social circuit. However, this weekend was largely bitter-sweet as it was Nick & Liz's last THD tour before they emigrated to Oz to get married and start a new life - best of luck to them. On the positive side THD members (but playing as part of Anglia Hornets) Mark Jones, Aidan Brock & Si Riley actually won the tournament... silverware at last.
Team: Aidan Brock (Gk), Tom Alexander, Nick Thomson, Simon Riley, Simon Wilshire, Chris Coleman, Mark Jones, Chris Richman, Faith Geraghty, Rachel Fallows, Liz Young, Linds McClaren.
Battersea International Festival
While the Womens section of the club won this tour for the nth year running the guys focused more on the drinking. Saturday saw teh team climb the table in the group stages without a loss all day. However, a slight excess on the drinking on the evening meant that there was only 6 people able to make it to the first game on the Sunday. The resulting loss in that match resulted in a bizarre inability to qualify for the knockout stages... still the drink and the memories always last longer than a chipboard and fake metal trophy!
Team: Jeremy Porter (GK), Aidan Brock, Andy Potatpa, Jon Kirby, Jon Holmes, Will Nurse, Gareth Norris, Graeme Fotheringham, Jon Drury, Robby Layton, Peter Malkin & Nick Harris.
Spencer 7s Mixed Festival
The 'unofficial' start of the touring season! A simple grass affair near Wandsworth Common. The Dragons made it to the Semi-Finals... however, they crashed out to a team with two England Mixed Internationals. Still honing those grass skills early on in the summer can only be a bonus!
Team: Mark Jones (GK), Simon Riley, Simon Wilshire, Chris Richman, Mike Wright, Anna Stuttard, Linds McLaren, Emma Bilsdon & Bettina Wolff. |
