Newsletter 2006/07
Since 2003/04 the club has produced weekly match reports. From the start of the 2005/06 season this became a weekly newsletter, distributed during the season, containing match reports from each of the games played that weekend as well as other key information and a selection of adverts and offers.

A small Tribune in terms of size but a massive issue in terms of content! Two great success stories to talk about this week with awesome results for both the Womens 1s and Womens 5s. The match reports are, of course, below but so notable the achievements that a little up-front sell wont do any harm!
With 6 games to go the Womens 5s had 4 points and had occupied a relegation spot all season. Never mind Charlton's bid to make the great escape, just be aware of what the 5s have done in the final six games - won 4, drew 2. Having put themselves in the situation to stage a rescue, they played Barnes in their final game needing a point to secure safety and to send Barnes down in their stead. They won 3-0 amid much rejoicing. If you ever wanted to know what club hockey is about then look down the leagues. Their joy and pleasure at this achievement was the equal of any never mind the league or the standard.
Which leads us nicely to news of two cup matches...
Having finished fourth in their division the Tornados have qualified for the Semi-Final of the League Cup - to be played at Quentin Hogg Memorial Ground on 14-Apr, push back 1300. The team would really appreciate anyone who could come along and support as it is only a short train ride from Clapham Junction to Chiswick. Its not often one of the Men's sides is chasing for silverware so come be part of history!
Secondly, having dispatched with the semi-final opponents the Womens 1s are confirmed finalists for the HA Trophy 2007. They've drawn Watton in the final which will be held at Chelmsford HC on Sat 21st April, match is at 12.15pm. There are 3 other finals that day - Womens Vase at 10am, Mens Trophy at 2.15pm and Mens Vase at 5pm. Support from the club would obviously be very much appreciated. There is a £5 admission on the day, but this gets you access to all of the games.
Finally, congratulations to Paul Harvey and family as his wife has given birth to a baby girl - Matilda.

It is with an emotional tear in my eye that I write the last match report of the season. I am even unable to add any characteristically sarcastic tones to it. Saturday's antics seem something of a hazy dream-like blur probably due to the free flowing champagne in the Bishop later that evening. As T5 fans will have gathered, this was a relegation battle like no other. We had a slight advantage in that we needed a minimum of a draw, but Barnes were hungry for a win to push us down into the bottom slot of the division. In true THD fashion, we stormed the pitch with fighting spirit showing that when the chips are down, T5 can pull it out of the bag. Luckily Coach Peter was on hand to provide tactical guidance and assist with substitutions. Special thanks must also go to Ferrett who although was unable to make the game, has provided invaluable support over the last few weeks and has been intrinsic in our recent success. Not surprisingly, it was a fierce game which reminded me in parts of the KY Jelly wrestling scene from "Old School" (although we didn't play naked). We managed to shake off Barnes's keen desire to play dirty hockey and pushed through to emerge triumphant with skill and poise.
Scoring in the first couple of minutes boosted our confidence and diminished theirs leaving T5 with the upper hand at half time. Two more cracking goals came in the second half from Kate and Dell, the last of which came just moments before the final whistle. Many have asked what has lead to this turnaround in the T5 story, one which seemed set on a downward spiral towards failure and relegation. Regular attendance at Coach Peter's excellent training sessions by the majority of the squad has certainly helped as well as the strong bonds, friendship and support within the team itself. A great example of this has to be Len's fabulous vocal skills on the sideline last Saturday which gave everyone the morale boost they needed. I don't think any of us will forget Saturday, 31 March 2007 in a hurry. P.S. If anyone wishes a copy of the book entitled "Any Dream Will Do: How to win like T5", it is available from any member of the team for a large fee and will be available from the self help section of all good book shops early next year.
