Womens 5s vs. London Wayfarers 5s: Won 7-2

Another sunny Saturday and T5 were raring to go and get some more goals in before the start of the season. Despite the opposition not having a goalie, we found ourselves down 2-1 by the end of the first half as the Wayfarers got off to strong start with lots of shots on goal.

However, in true T5 style, we came back strong in the second half, maintaining possession and scoring a number of goals in quick succession. Some of the set pieces from training came into play and there was some great passing, and working of the ball up the pitch. The culmination of the match came from a superb goal from Fatima who, bored of the lack of activity in defence, decided to nip up the pitch for a few minutes!

With 7 goals and a sun-tan, T5 went home happy and feeling prepared for the season ahead. (KL)

Tornados vs H&W 6s: Lost 4-1

Ideal match preparation...

1) Convene early evening in the Magdalene, drinking beer/lager/cider. Happy Birthday Coleman!
2) Cheer Argentina's victory over France in RWC2007. Hang head in shame at supporting Argentina.
3) Drink more booze.
4)* Accidentally attempt to set yourself on fire by sitting on a lit candle. Attempt failed.
5) Drink more booze to dull the pain
6) Taxi!
7) Dance badly in the Living Rooms, Brixton.
8) Drink lager, it's bound to help with the dancing
9) Enough with the dancing, beer is the order of the day
10) Exit bar.
11)* Enter McDonalds for a light, refreshing healthy snack (2 double cheeseburgers)
12)* Taxi/Night bus/Shanks' pony home
13)* Fell asleep and missed stop - Night Bus Mark 2
14)* Missed stop again.
15)* Taxi!

Outcome of ideal match preparation - lost 4-1. We were great though, considering half the side were truly slaughtered come 4am. (AF)

* Not necessarily attempted by everyone present

Diamonds/Royals vs. Old Loughts: Won 9-2

TH&D sides don’t put nine goals past anybody, let alone Old Loughts. This was a bit of a one-off though; both the Diamonds & Royals were due to play OL oppo, but neither club could raise two full sides in the September void, so we agreed to combine resources and play one game. We took 10 outfield players up, with OLs promising to provide us with a keeper; however, he decided he’d rather watch the TV Rugby, so they ditched their own goalie, and we played with 10-a-side, no short corners.

An even first half saw us go in at 1-1, and five minutes later it was 2-2, looking for all the world like a close match. Three or four of the OLs guys had played in the previous match, however, and suddenly tired, leaving gaping holes in midfield which TH&D exploited mercilessly. The most positive aspect of our performance was precisely this ability to capitalise on that weakness; we held our shape and passed intelligently, ramping up another seven goals without reply.

Whilst it’s nice to dream, none of us would bet on repeating this result in the League. (BD)
