Information - Academy (Junior) Hockey
Tulse Hill & Dulwich H.C. Junior Section would like to extend a warm welcome to any young person and their parent / guardian interested in playing hockey and finding out about the Club and this letter will provide you with some information about our activities. The Junior Section of Tulse Hill & Dulwich Hockey Club ensures provision of opportunities for young boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 16, whatever their previous experience, to receive coaching and to take part in various competitions during the course of the season which runs during term-time from September to Easter. All coaching is by qualified coaches who have been screened for their suitability for working with young people.
The Club is presently applying for accreditation with Sport England's Clubmark, which is awarded to clubs by England Hockey when the club is able to demonstrate that it meets the criteria with regard to playing programme, child protection, sports equity and ethics and club management. Clubmark is an acknowledgement that we take these issues seriously and that we are striving to provide a high quality and welcoming environment for young participants in hockey.
We welcome parents to all training sessions and competitions and value your support. We are keen to try and involve parents in the club and if you would like more information about this do not hesitate to ask one of the coaching team. Below is some more information about training times, dates, kit and club registration.
We produce a regular newsletter (at least 2 per term) which will keep you up to date with what is going on within the Junior section of the Club.
Training sessions take place on Sunday mornings at Alleyn’s
School, Townley Road, Dulwich, London SE22 8SU.

Arrangements should be made for your son / daughter to travel to and from training sessions and matches. We appreciate if players can arrive promptly and are collected promptly at the end of each session if they are not making their own way home. If you are going to be late picking up your son / daughter please let us know on : 07768 542073 (Steve) or 07984 204285 (Marilyn) or 07812 211364 (Peter) or 077519 05239 (Ferrett).
Players should be suitably clothed for all coaching sessions and matches – shorts / skirt / tracksuit trousers + suitable shirt / sweatshirt / fleece. Club kit is available to purchase – see separate kit form. Shin guards are essential and all players are advised to wear a mouthguard. Trainers, if not specially designed for astroturf should have a good grip and laces should be tied up sufficiently tightly so as to support the foot and help get a good grip on the pitch. Football boots or any other studded boots may not be worn. Anyone with long hair should wear it in such a way as to keep it off their face (e.g. bandana / ponytail).
Don’t bring valuables – but if you have to, make sure you give it in and collect it at the end.
A limited number of sticks are available to borrow, but you should bring your own stick if you have one. We are happy to advise as to what weight and length of stick is suitable and it will be possible to buy a stick through the Club during the early part of the season. Any child is welcome to a “taster session” to give the game a try, but every child who attends regularly will be required to pay a subscription for the season.
Subscriptions
£75 per
person
but with a reduction for more than one member:
2 from one family - £140
3 from one family = £200
4 from one family = £250
We also run a bursary scheme – please ask Marilyn for details.
“Home” matches will usually begin at 1pm. We have to rely on parents to assist with transport to “Away” matches and we would be most grateful if parents would let us know when they are willing to occasionally assist with transport.
If you require further information, please contact:
Steve Pennington 07768 542073
Marilyn Walker 07984 204285
Snep 07970 755503
Peter Berman 07812 211364
Ferrett 07751 905239
We would be grateful if you would complete the membership form and give it in with your subscription fee. For the safety of your son / daughter it is important that we are informed of any medical condition or allergies that may be relevant should your child fall ill or be involved in an accident while at the club.
Upon receipt of subscription and completed membership form a membership
card will be issued in case of random checks by security staff on site.
We do hope that your son or daughter will enjoy their hockey with us and look forward to your involvement too (more on that later in the season).
